Public Works

Tony Hall, Project Manager

Public Works:  Maintains 103 miles of streets including street repairs, street striping, signage, vegetation/grass maintenance, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, airport mowing, right of way mowing, and litter pick up.  For more information about the streets and Public Works Department or to report issues with the streets, call ESG at (912) 537-7029.

Mosquito Control:  Citizens can help control mosquitoes by removing standing or stagnant water that can be found in birdbaths, swimming pools, wheelbarrows, ceramic pots, pet dishes, etc.  Eliminating tall grass, weeds, and excess vegetation around your home will  also help to control mosquitoes.  To protect your family from "the bite", stay indoors at dawn, dusk, and early evening when mosquitoes are more active and remember to apply insect repellent.

Yard Waste Pick up:  Waste containers for normal household waste shall not be used to contain tree limbs, cuttings or leaves, and any such tree limbs, cuttings or leaves shall be placed on the edge of the street, clearly visible for pickup by the city at such times as are designated for pickup.  Piles should not contain household trash, lumber, metal, plastics or any material that is not of a vegetation nature (i.e.-pine straw, leaves, limbs, and brush only).  For disposal of any furniture, appliances, mattresses, carpeting, etc. please utilize the Convenience Center on Brinson Road or contact Vidalia City Hall at 912-537-7661 or Republic Services at 912-538-1714 for more information.

Debris should be placed into one (1) pile away from overhead power lines, cables and tree limbs.  Avoid piling debris near fire hydrants, water meters, or other utility devices.

Only yard trimmings generated from normal lawn maintenance will be picked up weekly.  Normal lawn maintenance trimmings must be placed by the street and the total amount of yard trimmings shall not exceed ten (10) feet long by five (5) feet wide by four(4) feet high in any one (1) week.  Trees and shrubs cannot exceed four (4) inches in diameter and must be cut in lengths not exceeding four (4) feet.  Any debris pile larger than 10'x5'x4' will result in an extra charge for disposal.
