Fire Department
Chief Brian Sikes was born in Vidalia, GA and is a 1986 graduate of Lyons Sr. High School and also attended Trinity Baptist College. He has been married to his wife, Dr. Kathy A. Sikes, ED.D since 1993. Chief Sikes has worked for the City of Vidalia Fire Department since 1992. He is a State of Georgia Certified Firefighter and holds many certifications from the Georgia Public Safety Training Center. He is a member of the Georgia State Firefighters Association. He is very involved in the community and has been a member of various civic organizations.
The City of Vidalia Fire Department has implemented the following initiatives to reduce the residential and commercial fire rates: Make yearly visits to the City of Vidalia Schools Pre-K through High School, distributing fire prevention literature, coloring books, hats, along with teaching fire prevention and personal life safety. We have a free smoke detector program in place and we provide classes in Fire Safety and Fire Extinguisher use to businesses, churches and civic organizations in the City of Vidalia.
- Provide pre-fire plans and inspections for businesses in the City of Vidalia.
- All fire hydrants are in the process of being painted, color coded and marked with blue reflector markers.
- Fire hydrants are on a scheduled inspection and maintenance plan.
- Maintain hazardous materials inventory for local businesses and industries.
- Participate in Emergency Management Drills.
- All employees are State of Georgia Certified Firefighters and participate in classroom and hands-on training under a certified fire instructor.
- Life Safety Education program for the youth of The City of Vidalia.
- Fire Fighters certified as Haz-Mat Technicians, Life Safety Educators, and Juvenile Fire Setters Intervention Specialist.
